:-X J’ai survécu à Auschwitz
Author: Krystyna Zywulska
Publisher: tCHu
Year: 2004
Comments: This book is very interesting and shocking. It describes the history of Krystyna Zywulska, who survived Auschwitz. Everyone should read this to realize how much evil a human been can do to someone else and that prejudice is worthless.
:-D A Briefer History of Time (Uma Nova História do Tempo)
Author: Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow
Publisher: Unknown
Year: 2005
Comments: A very interesting book!! It presents a tour through the evolution of the Physics from the first philosophical thoughts of Aristoteles until the newest theories on the universe’s shape, evolution and basic components. I shouldn’t have to say that other important characters such as Sir. Isaac Newton, Galileu Galilei and Albert Einstein are also present in the book. Furthermore, although about Physics, its content is not dense and few formulas are presented. Besides, the language is clearly understandable even for those who don’t like Physics so much. So, I do recommend it!
:-D The da Vinci Code (O Código da Vinci)
Author: Dan Brown
Publisher: Sextante
Year: 2003
Comments: It is surely one of Dan Brown’s best thrillers. Simply a world wide best-seller that keeps your attention since the beginning and continues on until the last word. Although many controversies about the veracity of the facts presented in the narrative about Jesus’ marriage with Maria Magdalena, we should never forget that this book is a romance, i.e. it is not a scientific book intended to reveal a truth based on scientific research. As Dan Brown himself said in an interview published in his site, he just wanted to make religious people think about their spiritual beliefs. Maybe, after reading the book, you should take a look at this article. But don’t stop there! Go look for other opinions about it too. I myself don’t agree with some affirmations made by the author of that article. ;-)
:-) Sofies verden (O Mundo de Sofia)
Author: Jostein Gaarder
Publisher: Unknown
Year: 1991
Comments: It is an interesting romance that shows an overview of the Philosophy’s history. It gets you interested in the end of the story. However, when we get closer to the end, it gets boring. But that is understandable, since it is quite big and a little bit repetitive. But, specially if you like to learn about Philosophy and ancient philosophers such as Socrates and Voltaire, you should read it.
